Do You Struggle with Being Consistent?

WOW… it’s day 8 today of my 100-day writing journey and I’m definitely finding my flow.

It’s ironic that for the last six months I’ve struggled to write weekly and yet now that I’ve committed to writing daily, it’s happening.

If you struggle with consistency in your activities, I promise you are not alone. Nor are you lazy. You may just not be in the flow.

Here are 4 insights I’m learning that may help you to be more consistent:

1. Take smaller steps

Too often we’re trying to change our lives too quickly:

  • We are trying to take off the weight we put on over years IN A WEEK!
  • We are trying to clear all of clutter in our house IN A WEEKEND!
  • We are trying to fix our finances OVERNIGHT!
  • We are trying to double our business THIS MONTH!

Beautiful, set yourself up to win. Small easy steps. Super do-able and fun, especially with your busy lifestyle. OK? I only have to write 100 words a day. Really, who doesn’t have 100 words to say?

2. Do it daily

You don’t brush your teeth one day and then leave them for several, right? When you do something daily, it becomes who you are. The drama associated with it lessens and you get in the flow. I’ve led several group coaching programs with daily steps and they are by far the most impactful. Why? Because small daily steps create a wave of momentum so huge it changes who you are.

3. Release the stories

When you struggle to be consistent, it is often because you have a story going on. What if I fail, what will people think, this is hard, I can’t do this…  All of those stories!

It’s time to shelve those and write a new story – something far more inspiring. If you are struggling, stop and ask, what’s the story I’m telling myself about this activity?

4. Get back to the love

I can tell this writing journey is working because I’m beginning to LOVE writing again. My whole world is becoming one big blank sheet and I’m so excited to go through my days wondering – what will happen today that I can write about?

Get back to the love. If you can’t love the activity, love how it makes you feel. Love how it’s changing you. Love what’s happening inside. Love something, anything… just get back to the love.

And look how quickly love adds up:

I’m averaging 250+ words a day. Over 100 days, that’s 25,000 words. A typical non-fiction is anywhere from 50,000 to 85,000 words, so I’ll be half way there. Could writing a book be this easy?? Hmmm…

Remember:

1. Take smaller steps.
2. Do it daily.
3. Release the stories.
4. Get back to the love.

Love is where it’s at.

Sending you the courage to find your flow.
