Declutter Day 1: Begin, Just Begin

It doesn’t matter what you declutter. Just pick something. The point is getting started with fun and ease. As I was getting dressed this morning, I noticed a blouse in my closet that is too big. I look like a tent in it. Even if I got it altered, the shape isn’t right for me. GONE I SAY! Into the black garbage bag it goes — destined for goodwill. That was easy!

  1. I started a day early, and while I was taking down the Christmas tree, I got rid of all the Christmas decorations that haven’t been taken out of their boxes in the past 5 years, most of it cheap-looking, and in horrible shape. Ugh. 2 garbage bags full.

It was a great start. I know not every day will be as prolific. But that’s OK, isn’t it?

    • Wow! Great work Debbie! Yes, it’s absolutely okay to follow the inspiration each day.

I too got a head start, thanks to Hanna. Before Xmas the fridge door was completely full of her artwork hung with magnets. While I loved every picture, it was too much. I could barely find the handle. I tried to take some away but she saw and was disappointed. So I left it. Then out of the blue yesterday she said to me, “Mom, there’s WAY too much stuff on the fridge. Can we throw out some of my pictures?” And she proceeded to declutter the whole thing. BRILLIANT!

  2. Saturday was my first day. My husband and I sorted through the basement. It looks worse before it gets better but I’m determined to get the job done!
