Today, Hanna helped created the space in our home. She made me close my eyes, took my hand and guided me to her bedroom. When I opened my eyes, I saw a nice, tidy room. Beautiful. But something was missing. “Where’s your lamp?”
“Well, mom, I put that big night light away. I’m not going to sleep with it as an adult, so I better stop now.”
“Oh, Hanna, you don’t have to. You’re five. If you still need it, you can use it.”
“Mom,” she said as she stroked my back, “I’m not afraid of the dark anymore. It’s okay.”
I sat on her bed in awe. Somehow I knew this message was about so much more than a little girl and a night lamp. I took in her words again,
“I’m not afraid of the dark anymore. I’m not afraid of the dark anymore. I’m not afraid of the dark anymore.”
Children are pure magic, overflowing with wisdom. It’s time to sparkle.
