Making Room for the New: 30 Days of Decluttering

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling a little stuffed in my house right now following the holidays. Our living room looks like Santa’s toy factory with all the gifts Hanna was blessed with. And all around the house are piles of things to put away from Christmas and before that.  The mail and laundry have piled up and well, my office, is a creatively organized disaster at the moment. It just doesn’t feel great. All the clutter is weighing me down.

Can you relate?

It’s hard to begin the year birthing new intentions and new habits when your environment (physical, mental or emotional) is already full.  We have to make room for the new by releasing the old. And because I’m not a natural organizer, I need to make things fun or I just won’t do them. So, I’m inviting you to join me in 30 days of Decluttering beginning Sunday January 9th.

The idea is quite simple. Discard one thing from your home, everyday, for 30 days straight.

It doesn’t need to be something big. Remove some old papers, take in the bottle recycling, gather a bag of old clothes for goodwill, return any gifts that needed exchanging. The point is to take one simple step each day and watch the momentum build.  Creating space is a great way to boost your energy and breathe new life into your world!

Personally, I’m committing to 15 minutes of decluttering every day. See what’s right for you. The goal is to be 30 things lighter in one month. Will you enjoy me?  We’ll begin Sunday January 9th.

Here’s to making room for the new!

  1. I will join you!

Our house is in desperate need of decluttering, and I am challenged with not throwing myself into it with too much abandon and decluttering something I will regret. However, with the hopes of our house being on the market come springtime, it is definitely a NEED to do, not a WANT to do.

    • Well, let’s make it fun. And my theory is, go for the low hanging fruit first. I’m addressing the easy and obvious stuff that I KNOW belongs in a new home! I’m glad you are along for the journey.
